This review is an thesis examining the problem of inheriting the spirit of Han Yong-un of the Korean Buddhist Youth Association. The author is intensively investigating and exploring the issues of inheritance and practice of Han Yong-un's spirit. This came out of the intention to expand the scope of Manhae Han Yong-un's research. Currently, among the organizations that are promoting the succession of Han Yong-un's ideology, the Korean Buddhist Youth Association is at the center of it. However, there is no publication or academic arrangement of related materials. Under this premise, the author classified and investigated the problem of the inheritance of Han Yong-un's spirit in this study by the Korean Buddhist Youth Association. He is: First, it was investigated how the current Korean Buddhist Youth Association recognizes Han Yong-un in the history of the Korean Buddhist Youth Association. Second, the history of recognition and succession of Han Yong-un was investigated at the Korean Buddhist Youth Association in the 1960s and 1970s. As a result, in the 1960s, the spirit of Hwarang, the ideology of the Jogye Order, and the spirit of the Volunteer Victory of the Imjin War were inherited. However, awareness of Han Yong-un was absent. However, when the monument to Han Yong-un was erected in Tapgol Park in Seoul in March 1970, he temporarily took an interest in Han Yong-un. Third, the period and circumstances in which the succession practice of Han Yong-un's thought emerged in detail was investigated. He originated from the history finding project of the Korean Buddhist Youth Association by Sun Jin-gyu's executive branch, which appeared in 1978. In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Han Yong-un's birth, the executive branch of Sun Jin-gyu promoted visiting Manhae's graveyard, holding Manhae seminars and lectures, and holding a 100-day festival. Promotion of this project continued after that. This review by the author is expected to contribute to organizing the history of the Korean Buddhist Youth Association, expanding the study of Han Yong-un, and promoting the study of the group that inherited the spirit of Han Yong-un.

이 고찰은 대한불교청년회의 한용운 정신의 계승 문제를 살핀 논고이다. 필자는 한용운의 정신 계승 및 실천의 역사를 집중적으로 조사하여 탐구하고 있다. 이는 만해 한용운의 연구 외연을 확대하려는 의도에서 나온 것이다. 현재, 한용운 사상의 계승사업을 추진하고 있는 단체 중에서 대한불교청년회는 그 중심에 있다. 그러나 그에 관련된 자료집 발간, 학술적인 정리는 부재하다. 이런 전제하에서 필자는 이 고찰에서 대한불교청년회 한용운 정신 계승에 대한 문제를 몇 가지 주제로 분류하여 조사하였다. 그는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 현재의 대한불교청년회가 한용운을 대한불교청년회의 역사에서 어떻게 인식하고 있는가를 조사하였다. 둘째, 1960년대와 1970년대의 대한불교청년회에서 한용운의 인식, 계승에 대한 역사를 조사하였다. 그 결과 1960년대는 화랑정신, 조계종단의 이념, 임진왜란의 의용승군 정신은 계승하였다. 그러나 한용운에 대한 인식은 부재하였다. 1970년 3월 서울 탑골공원에 한용운 비석이 건립되자 일시적으로 한용운에 관심을 가졌다. 이때 대불청 창립 50주년 기념사업으로 만해 강연회를 주최하였다. 셋째, 한용운 사상에 대한 계승실천이 구체적으로 대두된 시기, 구체적인 사정을 조사하였다. 그는 1978년에 등장한 선진규 집행부의 대한불교청년회 역사 찾기 사업에서 비롯되었다. 선진규 집행부는 한용운 탄신 100주년을 기념하여 만해 묘소 참배, 만해의 세미나 및 강연회 개최, 백일장 대회를 추진하였다. 이런 사업의 추진은 그 이후에도 지속되었다. 이런 사업은 기본적으로 민족주의 흐름에서 대두된 것으로 보고자 한다. 필자의 이 고찰은 대한불교청년회의 역사 정리, 한용운 연구의 확장, 한용운 정신 계승 단체 연구의 촉진 등에 기여할 것으로 기대한다.
