This article examines the trend of Yi-ology in the Yuan Dynasty during the formative period of Korea’s Yi-ology, and explores the mutual relationship with the basic trend of Yi-ology in Joseon Dynasty. At the same time, in particular, this paper analyzes the aspect of Yi-ology of Ho Bing-wen(胡炳文), an Yi-ologist in the Yuan Dynasty, who was accepted into the Yi-ology of Jeong Yak-yong(丁若 鏞). The Yi-ology of the Yuan Dynasty and the Yi-ology of Joseon Dynasty had no choice but to have a very close relationship from birth. The Yi-ology of the Yuan Dynasty are developed in the extension of the Song Dynasty. Zhu Xi’s Yi-ology inherited that of Cheng Yi(程頤), but he proved in ZhouYiBenYi(『周易本義』) that his own Yi-ology had both the Learning of Image and Number and the Learning of Meaning and Principle by dealing with the Learning of Image and Number that Cheng Yi had not dealt with. As Zhu Xi had both the Learning of Image and Number and the Learning of Meaning and Principle, it was difficult for Yi-ology after Zhu Xi to escape from the scope of Zhu Xi’s Yi-ology. The Yi-ology in the Yuan Dynasty took Zhu Xi’s Yi-ology as the head and established its own independent Yi-ology field within the big frame of the combination of the Learning of Image and Number and the Learning of Meaning and Principle. Representative Yi-ologists of the Yuan Dynasty largely followed the large framework of Zhu Xi’s Yi-ology, combined the Learning of Image and Number and the Learning of Meaning and Principle, and each went through a process of deepening and philosophizing. On the surface, it may seem like it doesn’t deviate from the big frame of Zhu Xi’s Yi-ology but internally, the depth and precision have been increased. If Zhu Xi made the structure, it would be said that the Yiology of Yuan dynasty filled contents in the structure, so it is a bit unfair to treat the Yi-ology of Yuan Dynasty as a mere imitation of Song Dynasty. In the history of Yi-ology in Korea, the traces of Yuan Dynasty’s Yi-ology are extensive. Among them, looking at the Yi-ology of Hu Bing-wen accepted in the Yi-ology of Jeong Yak-yong, they were mostly used in four ways. The first is a guarantee for the use of Huti(互體), and the second is the application to the use of new objects through Zhigua(之卦). The third is a case that is cited as a material for verifying the argument of Tuiyi(推移), and the fourth is an example that is used as a material to refute various theories. The Yi-ology of Hu Bing-wen influenced the Jeong’s Yi-ology in various ways, and among the four methods of interpretation of Jeong Yakyong, some of the methodologies such as Huti(互體), Objects(物 象), and Tuiyi(推移) was mentioned along with Zhu Xi’s Yi-ology, it played a functional role in guaranteeing the Yi-ology of Jeong Yakyong.
