Levinas’ philosophy has a completely different perspective that is beyond the modern way of thinking about nature (others). Using Levinas’ insight, this study seeks to examine what a lifestyle that is not returned to matter in a modern capitalist society, what it means to have a house residence, and what it means to work labor for humans. These discussions start from an explanation of the relationship between the self and the other (world) in Levinas’ philosophy. The world that Levinas sees is not an object of my desire but an object that I can own by working. The uncertain elements of the natural world turn to substances as objects because we form a relationship with them as their owners. To own things, however, it is necessary to work. Labor as a physical and conscious activity seeks to build a world where we can be free. This labor is only possible for residents living in a house. the house is a place that is built from the ground up, that forms the boundaries of the world, and that makes it possible for us to relate to the world. In short, according to Levinas, it is through residence and labor that the independence of world elements is stopped, and objects are made to appear in the world by capturing or grasping them. Residence and labor are residents’ voluntary and pre-theoretical activities.
