As is well known, Cheng Han Kingdom was a state of the Di tribe that existed in the Ba Shu region, now known as Sichuan in present-day China, during the period of the Five Barbarians and Sixteen Kingdoms. Ba Di is an ancient tribe that forms the origins of the Li Te family, who established Cheng Han. The displaced people from the six prefectures provided a physical foundation for establishing Cheng Han at the end of the Western Jin Dynasty. The ‘Spring and Autumn of the Sixteen Kingdoms’ has The ‘Shu Record’ in volume 76, which details the life of Li Te. Li Te is the father of Li Xiong, the founding monarch of Cheng Han, effectively reflecting the historical situation at the beginning of the Cheng Han Dynasty. The main aim of this article is to provide a translation and commentary of this literature. Notably, significant effort has been invested in comparing it with relevant parts of other historical texts such as ‘The Book of Jin,’ ‘Huayang Guo Zhi,’ and ‘Zizhi Tongjian.’ Simultaneously, we have also examined the historical significance of the relationship between Li Te, his family, and factions that were foundational to the establishment of Cheng Han, as well as the historical importance of the contact event of the displaced people from the six prefectures.
