Since the 1920s, Yadam has been in close contact with fairy tales. However, the method was to the extent that fairy tales used night stories, and the researcher’s interest did not deviate from this. However, from the 1930s, the organizers of Yadam magazine summoned fairy tale writers to write Yadam by utilizing the similarity of their materials. In order to examine the difference, this paper focused on the works left by Yeon Sung-heum in 『Wolgan-Yadam』 and 『Yadam』 magazines.
Yeon Sung-heum’s Yadams usually show the characteristics of applying mutatis mutandis to the works contained in the exhibition’s Yadams, but he did not hesitate to actively transform himself if necessary. And these characteristics of compilation and description drove the thematic orientation that emphasized “community ethics” while emphasizing the point of the benefit and complement of good characters. This was very similar to his fairy tale writing. On the other hand, when creating a new story based on wild events, there was also a tendency to follow the writing of the “Sad-history” of the time of popularity and tragedy. In other words, the writing methods of Yadam and Yasa were slightly different.
Through the work of Yeon Seong-heum presented in the paper, it was possible to guess that the planning of the two magazines was carried out in various forms, and that it was the product of the planning that attracted readers. In other words, the connection with children’s literature played a major role while seeking a way out through the diversification of the base of the Yadam writers. There were various reasons at the base, such as the possibility of various writing due to the expansion of the space, individual economic circumstances, and friendship. As a result, it can be said that in the 30s, fairy tale writers participated in Yadam magazines and tried various Yadam techniques, playing a role in driving the success of Yadam at that time.

1920년대부터 야담은 동화와 긴밀히 접촉하고 있었다. 다만 그 방법은 동화가 야담을 활용하는 정도였으며, 연구자의 관심도 여기에서 벗어나지 않았다. 그런데 1930년대부터 야담 잡지의 기획자는 동화작가들을 소환하여 그들이 지닌 소재의 유사성 등을 활용하여 야담을 작성하도록 한다. 그 차이를 살피기 위해 본고에서는 연성흠이 『월간야담』과 『야담』 잡지에 남긴 작품에 주목했다.
연성흠의 야담은 대개 전시기 야담집에 수록된 작품을 준용하는 특징을 보이지만, 필요한 경우가 있다면 적극적 변개도 주저하지 않았다. 그리고 이런 편찬과 서술의 특징은, 한결같이 선한 인물의 시혜와 보은이라는 지점을 강조하면서 ‘공동체 윤리’를 강조한 주제적 지향을 견인했다. 이는 그의 동화작법과 퍽 유사한 것이었다. 한편 야사를 토대로 새로운 이야기를 만들어낼 때는 통속과 비극이라는 당대의 ‘애사’ 글쓰기를 답습하는 경향도 보였다. 곧 야담과 야사의 글쓰기 방식이 미세하게 달랐던 셈이다.
논문에 제시된 연성흠의 작품을 통해 두 잡지의 기획이 다양한 형태로 이루어졌으며, 독자를 유인하는 기획의 소산이었음을 짐작해 볼 수 있었다. 이는 곧 야담 집필진 저변의 다양화를 통해 활로를 모색한 가운데, 아동문학과의 접속이 주요한 역할을 했던 것이다. 그 저변에는 지면의 확대에 따른 다양한 글쓰기의 가능, 개인의 경제적 사정, 친분 등 여러 이유가 있었다. 결과적으로 30년대 동화작가들이 야담 잡지에 참여하고 다양한 야담 기법을 시도하면서, 당시 야담의 흥행을 견인하는 일익을 담당하고 있었던 것이라 할 수 있다.
