This study aims to present a structural analysis of infinitival complements for the English verb help. The verb help can take a full infinitive or a bare infinitive as its complement, distinguishing it from other verbs. It shares semantic similarities with assist and aid. However, the infinitival complements in help constructions exhibit grammatical parallels with complements in periphrastic causative constructions, raising constructions, or ECM constructions, which this paper aims to support. Based on Chomsky (2001), it is argued that the infinitival complements are Tense Phrases (TPs), which have a defective head T with the feature [±modal]. With a defective head, the embedded subject DP and object DP are merged externally. [-modal] makes it impossible for the bare infinitives to signal time distinction in complements and to be passivized. The embedded subject DP has its case feature checked with the verb help in a manner similar to how the case checking of the embedded subject DP of ECM-constructions occurs.
