This study analyzed the patterns and influences of Korean contemporary women"s literature, centered on Nam-joo Cho"s 『Kim Ji Young born 1982』(2016), translated and accepted in Japan. In other words, it examines how Korean women"s literature, which is gaining sensational popularity in Japan, was introduced to Japan, the practical issues of translation surrounding the difference between the cultures of the two countries, and the pattern of acceptance by Japanese readers.
In fact, according to the results of a survey of the translation of Korean novels in Japan before and after the publication of the Japanese version of 『Kim Ji Young born 1982』, women"s literature is the mainstream among Korean literature, and it is not necessarily proportional to the order of publication in Korea. As a result, it was confirmed that the author"s past works are being published and that Korean literature series are being published for each publisher.
Analyzing the Japanese translation of 『Kim Ji Young born in 1982』and its acceptance pattern could raise the status of Korean literature as well as suggest a new vision of the crunched relationship between Korea and Japan. The power of empathy through literature of women from both countries, and furthermore, the solidarity of women can be a breakthrough in the stiff relationship between the two countries.
