The thesis investigated Ogawa Mimei’s view of war through his former literary works, considering 「Bokumo Sensoni Ikunda(僕も戦争に行くんだ)」 as the beginning of his cooperative side of the war. The results of the study showed the following two characteristics. First, the characters of the novel are divided into Men in Power, the Provocateur, the Soldier, and the General Public, and there is a definite difference in their power structure. Second, in order to maximize the tragedy of the war, the novelist evades direct description and instead, gives an indirect description of the postwar ruins from a distance through the eyes of children. At that time, Ogawa definitely reminds Japanese of Japan’s war responsibility criticizing the powers, the public―who are obedient to the powers, and the intellectual’s limitation and cowardice among the powers and the public. Against the backdrop of his anti war view as such, he had had a critical view on the ‘power’, which attempts to reign the weak, and the ‘justice’ the stronger protest. The humanistic aspect of Ogawa, who was full of justice and compassion for those in misery, was entangled with troubled times and adrift in various ideologies. In the end, however, Ogawa was influenced by Kropotkin’s humanism, which is found to have had an effect on his works.
