As digital technology made progress, various design tools utilizing computer were developed and this brought significant changes to design and expression techniques utilizing such tools. As a result, the number of buildings that pursuit unpredictable, complicated or diverse structures has increased, and such buildings include buildings that pursuit non-formal structures such as organic structures reflecting free curves, irregular, polygonal and non-geometrical structures, and diagonal structures demonstrating robust directivity and dynamics. Of such buildings, since museums serve as landmarks that create urban environments as public cultural buildings, the structure itself of buildings known as museums pursuits visual formative beauty. Despite the trend of such modern museum buildings, the precedent studies were limited in that they were focused on space and exhibition(production) due to the intended use of museums as exhibition spaces. In this study, of modern buildings that pursuit diverse structures, those that pursuit a museum structure were selected as the subjects for museum structure analysis, and the museums constructed by architects multiply mentioned in the precedent studies were selected as the subjects for constructional structure analysis. The study procedures were as follows: Initially, the form of buildings that is visually prioritized was classified per type of structure. Secondly, based on such classification, each type was re-broken down into various sub-types of design relating to formality and non-formality. Then, by using such classification as the baseline data, the constructional structure of the museums constructed per highly mentioned architect(Zaha Hadid, Daniel Libeskind, Frank O.Gehry, etc.) was analyzed. Through analyzing such types of work per architect, it is possible to examine the trend of the constructional structure of museums demonstrated by modern buildings, and, at the same time, this study aims to provide the baseline data that would contribute to the growth and evolution of the constructional structure of museums in the concept design phase for form production.
