Museums can play a vital role in shaping the identity of individual cities or buildings. Contemporary architects are constantly exploring multi-faceted relationships with nature and considering the impact of the surrounding environment. This research presents future architectural changes by analyzing the architectural characteristics and types of museums located on slopes. Sixteen domestic and international museums were selected and analyzed based on their topographical contact, mass placement, arrangement and function of external spaces, circulation planning, and cross-sectional shape. The study emphasized the importance of spatial differentiation and providing diverse visitor experiences, as revealed through the influence of the type of ground on the slope on building layout, access flow planning, and the relationship between the exhibition and external spaces. Additionally, the study confirmed the significance of multi-layered contact with nature in contemporary architectural planning, specifically in the context of museum programs. This study categorizes and analyzes the fundamental factors for creating architectural spaces on slopes and provides valuable insights for future museum planning on sloping terrain based on recent trends in museum architecture.
