As an essential component of traditional Chinese culture, music of ethnic minorities has left an indelible mark on the development of ethnic minorities, while it has also added, with its unique music and rich history and culture, great value to the Chinese musical culture and history. Over the recent years, music of ethnic minorities has been integrating with modern western music as the further development of musical anthropology in the musical domain. Most of the previous studies on this topic have focused on the fields of musical morphology and folklore, but researches on musical anthropology and musical historiography have hardly been conducted.
This paper, taking the research methods of musical historiography, presents an in-depth analysis of the characteristics of the development of Chinese minority music from the perspective of musical anthropology, and proposes relevant suggestions for the inheritance and sustainable development of minority music in China.
