A culture is the fruits of natural environment and historical environment. If the fundamental character of culture is formed as a means for the improvement of survival and life in a specific natural environment, the variables in the process of historical development drive changes of culture. In case of Russia, the changes of historical environment such as physical conflicts or peaceful exchanges with other cultures, and territorial expansion, led some changes in the cultural characteristics. Especially, the domination of Russia by Mongolia for about 240 years might have great influences on the overall culture of Russia, based on our own historical experiences. This thesis diachronically organizes various perspectives on the influences of ‘Mongol-Tatar Yoke’ on Russia, and then analyzes the grounds for conflicting arguments. In regard of this matter, there are two conflicting extreme positions and tendencies of various spectrums between them. The followers of the first position generally negate all the important historical results of Mongolia’s domination of Russia. Also, the supporters of the other position are emphasizing the importance of the Mongolian era in the history of Russia in both aspects of affirmation and negation. Such various perspectives on this issue between both extremes, basically admit Mongolia’s influences even though there are differences in the scope and width. It is difficult to negate the influences of actual ‘Mongol-Tatar Yoke’ on Russian culture. Moreover, in the geopolitical aspect, the history has important meanings in the fate of Russia. The perception in which Russia is the direct successor of the Mongol Empire as a country that has experienced and overcome the powerful influences of the Mongol Empire, gives the grounds of justification to Russia that is asserting its right of many ethnic groups residing in the vast territory from the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea to the Pacific. In the bottom of this argument, there are the issues related to the essence and origin of Russian political system. And the argument for finding the answer will be continued.
