This paper examines how the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games has affected the development of Korean sports by focusing on the history of Korea’s participation in the Olympic Games, participation and lessons of the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, and the change after the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. The conclusions are as follows. 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games revolutionized the Korean sportsdom, which had taken reckless challenges to the Olympic Games without knowing anything about the real state like a babe in the woods. At the center of the transformation, there was an outstanding man Min Gwan Sik, a sports administrator and a politician. Korean sports were able to build a sports infrastructure such as a Sports Center and a Taereung National Training Center for their own development, with the stubbornness of Min Gwan Sik. These facilities paved the way for Korean sports to leap onto the world sports stage, and contributed a lot to performing well in various international competitions and raising its status as a sports powerhouse.
