This study examined the role of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games as a stepping stone in the inter-Korean relations in terms of sports diplomacy. Previous studies include inter-German case before unification and the Ping Pong diplomacy, after which we compared the current status of inter-Korean talks and sports exchanges with those of before the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games. Various previous studies include the importance and direction of sports diplomacy in Korea, analysis of German sports diplomacy, US-China Ping-pong diplomacy, and diplomatic usefulness of the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games. Based on these studies, we confirmed that sports can function as a catalyst for improving inter-korean relations, which remains the last divided nation in the world. The PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games played a significant role as sports diplomacy and is expected to bring more events that can facilitate the improvement of inter-Korean relations in the future and finally to have the possibility to open the co-host Summer Olympic Games at Seoul and Pyongyang in 2032.
