Museum collections are the fundamental elements of museum and museum education. For this reason, online and offline education operations can be distinguished by viewing museum collections. In particular, education using actual appreciation of museum collections is only available in museums. Therefore, this study examined the Intellectual Dimension of Aesthetic Experience that occurred in the process of appreciation. So that the role and meaning of the museum collection as educational materials were derived. Research data were collected by performing three times of collection appreciation activities in the permanent exhibition room of the National Museum of Korea. Through the analysis of the research data, the collection"s the role of ‘Knowledge Use Tool’ and the meaning of ‘Knowledge Production Medium’ as educational materials were derived. The role of the collection as a ‘Knowledge Use Tool’ was divided into knowledge confirmation, knowledge acquisition, arise of knowledge acquisition desire, and knowledge utilization according to the application of knowledge. And as a ‘Knowledge Production Medium’, the collection had the meaning of means of memory painting over, expanding vision, knowledge mining, and knowledge creation by what results it brings. In this way, the role and meaning of the collection derived from this study will be applied to educational development as an element of educational use in the future, which will contribute to the development of museum education.
