Report Errors
The modernity and coloniality of railways and their impact on people varied from region to region. This locality is prominent in the railway station connecting railways and residents. In this respect, railway stations are effective for teaching regional history because they could be an agent linking students’ daily life and the history of railways.
Based on the characteristics of railway stations and the aim of regional history education, this paper presents the performance strategy and information utilization method necessary for teachers to devise an inquiry class for exploring railway stations. This program includes the categorization and comparative analysis according to the function and historical characteristics of railway stations, the acquisition and utilization of related literature and data, and the specific activities of the exploration. Of course, such railway station exploration activities and their teaching and learning strategies cannot be implemented thoroughly in schools. School conditions, teachers’ interests, and students’ demands should be fully considered.
