This study considers policy plans for improving employment and labor administration services in Gyeonggi province. Jungbu regional employment and labor administration office to which Gyeonggi province belongs is in charge of large areas, making it difficult to provide local customized employment and labor administrative services. In addition, branches of the Ministry of Employment and Labor located in Gyeonggi province are not empowered to carry out tasks such as establishment of a workplace supervision plan and inspection of discriminatory treatment against non-regular workers and unfair labor practices. Thus, the need to establish a regional employment and labor office for Gyeonggi province has been raised.
The survey on employment and labor administrative services conducted by Gyeonggi research institute documents that workplace supervision has been poorly performed and it needs to be improved to reduce violations of labor laws. The survey results also indicate that 62.3% of the respondents agree with the policy suggestion of establishing Gyeonggi regional employment and labor administration office.
Given that Gyeonggi residents’ demand for employment and labor administrative services has dramatically increased for the last two decades, it is suggested that Jungbu regional employment and labor administration office is divided into two parts: Jungbu regional employment and labor administration office covering Incheon city and Gangwon province and Gyeonggi regional employment and labor administration office covering Gyeonggi province.
