This article describes the transformative perspective of museums and artifacts in the process of conducting research in a rural area by a researcher from Seoul through an autoethnography. I have an ambivalent desire; one the one hand, I have a desire for organization as a housewife, and one the other hand, I have a desire for collection as a historical researcher. Different desires clashed and made me reflect on my own identity. Through the lives of Seoul and this rural area, I would like to discuss what practices and values can be given to in field of museum education. This article attempted to analyze artifacts from a contemporary historical perspective with a transformative perspective. After 1945, along with modernization and urbanization, people’s envious perspective for new residential spaces was created, and at the same time, rural areas were overlaid with an underdeveloped and backward image. Here, we look at the modern spatial arrangement and organization, preference for apartments, and the recent trend of arrangement and organization. On the one hand, rural areas tend not to move their residences as much as possible, but the reality that household goods are placed as a kind of neglect is juxtaposed. Among them, domestic artefacts that make up folk history and living history can be collected much more in rural areas than in cities. There is a new need for a museum education to discover artifacts in the reality that old household supplies are still considered junk. Therefore, local rural museums would play a role in discovering artefacts in daily life as community practice and helping anyone access contemporary local history, folk history, and life history.
