The focus of this study was the thought processes of foreign children who learned to speak Japanese after their stay in Japan and, subsequently, had to manage their understanding of two languages.
For example, he had never experienced an inconvenience in his school life because of familiarity with the Japanese language, but he was disappointed that he could not speak Korean,. He began to feel uncomfortable using Japanese in his home environment. In addition, the fact that he was Korean led to the perception that he was different from others,, which had an effect on his active personality. Ultimately, studying in Korea was a good experience. Socially, however, the category of nationality was bothering him again.
After going to Korea, I felt that my Japanese language ability would deteriorate by studying Korean. It was also revealed in my language ability that I could not become a Korean again. On the other hand, the fact that I had a physical examination to enter the military formed a different sense of self, I no longer merely perceived myself as a Korean living in Japan,; my military interest was contributing to a change in identity.
Findings of the study revealed that the identity characteristics of the person —not the designation as Japanese, Korean, or overseas Korean—led to language behavior.
