Although compound verbs have abundant expressive power and are widely used in Japanese daily life, it is very difficult for Chinese learners of Japanese to master compound verbs. Therefore, in this paper, we created a database of compound verbs in Japanese language textbooks of Chinese universities and the questions that have appeared in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test for 6 years, and conducted a questionnaire survey of Chinese learners of Japanese. The usage and misuse were analyzed. As a result, first of all, even if you know the meaning of a compound verb itself at the vocabulary level, you may not be able to use it well at an actual operational level. Second, when using compound verbs, they are susceptible to interference from their mother tongue. Third, it is difficult to correctly identify differences in the meanings of similar compound verbs. Fourth, it was found that among the high-frequency compound verbs common to the textbooks and the New Japanese Language Proficiency Test, there are many posterior verbs such as “-put out” and “-match”.
