In 1941, Ikeuchi Hiroshi(池內宏) wrote and published a paper on the war of the fall of Goguryeo. It was his masterpiece. But he did not consider the fluidity of the borders of war. According to his argument, Goguryeo collapsed with little resistence. However, the advance and retreat of the front line were repeated in the Last War of Goguryeo.
In September 667, Chinese general Lee Jik(李勣), who received the Teaheang castle(大行城) at the mouth of the Amnokgang(the Yalu River), moved south to the Cheongcheon River in October, but withdrew to Amnokgang in November.
Immediately after the fall of Puyo castle(扶餘城) by the Chinese army in February 668, Goguryeo"s 50,000 troops moved north. Lee Jik gave up Teaheang castle and retreated to the nearby Ogol Fortress There, Lee Jik defeated the Goguryeo army and went south to recapture Teaheang castle. In June of the same year, Lee Jik advanced north of Pyeongyang. In that place, he met Silla’s prince Kim Inmoon. However, his troops were not connected with another Chinese army coming from south from Baekje. In early July, However, his troops could not come into contact with 10,000 Chinese troops coming from south from Baekje. Because, the latter were attacked and exterminated by Goguryeo troops in early July. and Lee Jik withdrew to Amnokgang. In early August, Lee Jik advanced to south, surrounded the Pyeongyang Castle on August 12 and captured it on September 12. As a result, the Kingdom of Goguryeo fell, but not without fierce resistance. Goguryeo’s final war was magnificent.
