Background
In response to the social changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the radical development of technology, the demand for online learning in education surges. However, the current status of user-centered education platform service provision and support technology in line with these demands is insufficient. In particular, elementary school students who are most vulnerable to non-face-to-face classes are experiencing difficulties in online learning such as a decrease in concentration during classes and the decline of their academic performances despite the Ministry of Education"s various countermeasures. Therefore, this study was conducted with the purpose of improving the blended learning experience of elementary school students as proposing an education service improvement strategy based on experience value.
Methods
This study defined user experience factors suited for the blended learning education service through prior research on previous studies on user experience factors and service qualities and discovered opportunities for service design improvement through user pilot tests. A survey was conducted on elementary school students and elementary school teachers experiencing remote classes and their service experience factors were analyzed in depth using the Kano model and Timko"s customer satisfaction coefficient. Based on this, a blended learning platform service concept, a storyboard, and a service blueprint were developed.
Results
With the concept of sustainability of use, bond formation, and self-directed learning, the elementary education platform service strategy consists of 1. the integrated platform operation with UI design tailored to elementary school students’ standards, 2. The implementation of interactive class using gamification as maximizing communication, 3. the personalized learning guidance using AI technology and systematic compensation program operation. It was possible to identify the interactions between the users and various stakeholders through the presented service blueprint by defining key service interacting points for each user"s journey.
Conclusions
In order to resolve problems with online platform services in elementary education and provide a positive experience of blended learning, this study brought an outcome of service design with an analysis of the service quality factors based on user experience values. It is meaningful in that it presented a strategic direction for an integrated platform service of public elementary education which enables providing education service carefully tailored to the standards of elementary school students.
