This article examines the problem of continuity in the perception of Usando, tracking changes in the names of Ulleungdo and Usando. The records of Ulleungdo and Usando began with the Usanguk and were divided into the names Ulleungdo and Usando. Ulleungdo has various names and Chinese character notations. Usando also had various names and Chinese character notations, but was mainly called Usando. The recognition of Usando became clear only after experiencing the Ulleungdo Incident during the Sukjong era. By writing in the notes of the Dongguk munheon bigo(Reference Compilation of Documents on Korea) "Ulleungdo and Usando both belong to Usanguk, but Usando is Matsushima(松島), which the Japanese say," it became clear that Usando was Dokdo. In the period of Jungjo, Usando was also called Ulleung Oedo(蔚陵外島). With Korean bureaucrats recognizing Usando, referring to the land as Ulleung Oedo, and the fact that Ulleung Oedo points to Dokdo is evident because Ulleung Oedo corresponds to what the Japanese refer to as Matsushima. However, in literature, Usando or its name can be seen as Dokdo, but it is sometimes difficult to display Usando as Dokdo on a map. Nevertheless, Usando on the map of late Joseon refers to Dokdo because it is largely based on Sin Gyeongjun"s perception of Usando. The name Usando was continuously seen in literature, even after the appearance of the names Seokdo and Dokdo. Nevertheless, the recognition of Usando, Seokdo, and Dokdo did not contradict each other, and the recognition of B was not cut off. If the names Seokdo and Dokdo appeared and the perception of Usando was cut off, then the Usando would not have appeared after 1906, but in 1908, the names Ulleungdo and Usando were written. In the modern era, the perception of Usando was misinterpreted, and the name in Japan changed to Korea. Nevertheless, in Korea, Seokdo and Dokdo were never recognized as referring to islands other than Usando. Thus, Korea experienced a temporary crack with its perception of Usando, but was continuously perceived as pointing to Dokdo. Even after Usando settled under the name Dokdo, Usando always appeared in records, and the recognition that Usando was Dokdo continued. Japan called Ulleungdo Takeshima in the Edo period, Usando to Matsushima, changed Ulleungdo to Matsushima in modern times, changed Usando to Liancourt rocks and artificially set Liancourt rocks to Takeshima. This aspect is very different from that of Korea.
