Hanyang has been studied mainly in literary works and criticism. However, Hanyang should study discourse more than literature. That way we can understand the characteristics of the magazine. This paper studies the discourse of Hanyang, clarifies the media character of Hanyang in the 1960s. Hanyang is a media where Korean intellectuals living in Japan self- assert 'advisors' on Korean issues. Hanyang set pre-modern Korea as utopian space. And they thought It has high value. Because it can increase the pride and patriotism of the nation. On the other hand, Hanyang emphasized the restoration of national identity by criticizing the present Korea, which is lagging behind politics, economy, society and culture. By the way, lack of national subjectivity was also the situation of Korean residents in Japan. Therefore, the restoration of national identity has become a common task for Koreans and Korean residents in Japan. It made it possible to imagine the sameness of Koreans and Korean residents in Japan. And it became the basis for strengthening the logic that allows Hanyang to intervene in Korea issue. In order to materialize the restoration of national identity, Hanyang called the revolutionary spirit of April 1960. By the way, the restoration of the national identity was also the basis of the modernization claimed by Hanyang. Thus, the spirit of the April Revolution emphasized the internalization of the revolutionary spirit rather than the justification of the political revolution, and it became in conformity with the "human reformism" of the Military regime. Because Hanyang in the 1960s could not be anti-governmental. The Military regime, however, did not allowed of the Hanyang's claim to strengthen national identity and advocated of the April Revolutionary forces. Because, from the Military regime's point of view, the magazine's claims could be anti-governmental. In the end, Hanyang was not imported to Korea because of the 'Literary Spy Group Case'(문인간첩단사건) that was manipulated in 1974. So the magazine was completely forgotten.
