The aim of this research, Improvement Project of Pedestrian Passage Environments in Geumnam-ro, Gwangju', is to draw fundamental problems of pedestrian obstacles, to suggest improvement method for returning comfortable pedestrian passage environments to inhabitants. Based on this perspective, this research suggested theme-style pedestrian passage by applying the concept of human right city of Gwangju City to Geumnam-ro, Gwangju.‘ Improvement Project of Pedestrian Passage Environments’ for human-centered urban revitalization should be done for the recovery of historical and cultural identity and the function reinforcement of international city of Gwangju Metropolitan city. Through this research, the driveway and side walk were designed with the perspective of integrated concept then walking space was suggested to be secured by moving street sculptures, switchboards and obstacles against pedestrians. Also, from the viewpoint that Geumnam-ro is a living space for general civilian walkers, the method for safety and convenience were suggested for the walkers by improving pavements, fixing facilities arranged thoughtlessly, constructing landscapes, and improving the designs of the entrances and exits of old underground commercial streets. In addition lumination plans with LED for individual street facilities were suggested for the night scene of Gwangju City. In conclusion, this research suggested the way to construct vehicle-free street of Geumnam-ro (from 1st st to 3rd st.) through integrated management of side walk environmental improvement and the way to construct human right city of democratization, world cultural city based on National Asia Cultural Center, creative city supported by UNESCO, masterpiece street with the concept of 5.18 Democratization Plaza where citizens communicate and socialize by applying light city image of Gwangju(Bitgoel)
