This study set out to investigate how he assessed nearly 200 figures in his journal Godaeilok and what positions he took for the assessment. Jeong Gyeong-woon belonged to the Bukin line that inherited the ideology of Nammyeong School and to a provincial noble family in Hamyang, Gyeongsangwoo Province, undergoing Imjinwaeran. As a member of Bukin line, he generally assessed his fellow Bukin members positively, Namin members neutrally, and Seoin members negatively. Going through Imjinwaeran, however, he recognized the achievements of those who placed value on "righteousness" and further practiced it by inheriting the ideology of Nammyeong School more objectively. He highly praised the creative spirit of Seoin leaders of army raised in the cause of justice, leaving the partisan interest behind. He must have wanted to raise the status of literary figures of Nammyeong School, where he belonged, by highly appreciating the activities of army raised in the cause of justice led by those figures. As a member of provincial noble family, he took a more subjective position based on the characteristics of personal narration expected in a journal and made favorable assessment of those who offered him assistance or were in close relations with him. People keep a journal to meet very personal purposes and uses rather than showing it to others. It is thus natural that people describe things in a very self-centered manner in a journal regardless of their political and social positions, which can also be reflected in a journal. Finally, it is worthwhile to notice that Jeong changed his perceptions of the same figures depending on occasions, which include distinguished military service, harmful effects of war, objective situational judgments based on various pieces of information, and personal encounters. His perceptions changes most frequently due to the distinguished military service of figures he evaluated. War makes it natural to assess figures objectively based on their distinguished military service. In addition, his own positions, interpersonal relationships, and new information served as critical elements in his altered assessments of figures. People assess others based on their tastes derived from their interpersonal relationships and also their social and cultural values. It is thus possible to understand a person and figure out the situations and perceptions of the society where he or she belonged by analyzing his or her assessments of figures. Jeong's assessments of figures reflected his subjective perceptions based on his personal positions in a special situation of Imjinwaeran and also his general perceptions based on his social positions.
