The purpose of this paper is to study Herzog’s chaos, change and topophilia represented in Saul Bellow's Herzog. The protagonist Herzog suddenly faces crisis after he divorced with his second wife, and Madeleine realized that her lover was his best friend. Herzog, therefore, reexamines his life by reenacting all the roles he took seriously. And when he has gone through all the reenactments, he is back at the original point, Ludeyville. This place is very important because it is the place where Herzog faced his crisis and restored his order. Topophilia can be defined as all of the human being’s affective ties with the places he lives. As an example of topophilia, Ludyville was examined. After all the reenactments, Herzog returns and finds his emotional stability in his old house. He tried to seek the solution of his chaos and problems, and he went to another places like New York and Chicago. But even though these places did not give him a comfort zone to rest, they offered a chance to experience different situations and their reality. He feels affective ties at his house and new strength to restart his life here. So it is clear that topophilia affects his restoration of chaos and his spiritual maturity.
