This study aims to measure university student Awareness of genre and analyze its effect on their writing performance. For this purpose, it collected examination data on reading tasks and writing tasks and those on writing performance from freshmen (a total of 58 students) enrolled in A. National University of Education with methods of survey and discussion and writing performance. As a result of the analysis of the correlation between their genre Awareness and writing performance, the correlation coefficient between the two factors was relatively as high as .613. This study could find university student genre Awareness in reading tasks and writing tasks and its effect on their writing performance through a variety of analysis data, and it is expected that university student genre Awareness and writing instruction will be discussed extensively in the future.
