This study aims at analyzing the horizontal expansion remodeling case in Saint-Nazaire in order to derive the helpful and applicable contents and references for domestic remodeling implementation. It is carried out literature review and case analysis. The findings of the literature review can be organized into three categories: first, the improvement of apartment housing area, such as landscaping, playground, parking lot, floor, garbage separator, amenities, etc and secondly, the improvement of building exterior and interior, for instance entrance, stair case, core, ground floor and so on thirdly, the reconstruction and improvement of housing unit floor plan such as bedrooms, bathrooms, balcony, finishing material and equipment (wallpaper, boiler, etc.). The results of case analysis are, except for the items of the apartment housing environment, firstly, the improvement of main entrance and the staircase, the replacement exterior wall finish and the elevator, the horizontal expansion on both sides of the main body, the addition of new cores, the distributed connection of each unit approach, secondly, the improvement of housing units such as warehouse, bathroom, winter garden and balcony, thirdly, the additions of one and two rooms to the existing types of two, three and four rooms. What the analyses suggest is that firstly, the horizontal expansion of the SRC structure to the existing RC structure shows one possibility that SRC could be added to the domestic apartments of RC. Secondly, the extension of two cores makes the efficiency of the approach to each unit in the tower-type apartment. Thirdly, the four types of units can meet various needs and aims for the effect of mixing between generations. Fourthly, the recomposition of unit floors can improve the quality of the residence by taking into account the improved way of life.
