Jangam Jeong-ho(鄭澔, 1648~1736) was an active politician and a writer, who belonged to the Kiho School(畿湖學派) passed down by Song Si-yeol and was in the vanguard of Noron(老論). For his upright character, he was discharged from office and demoted over and over. This paper aims to consider his poetry world revealed in his 230 Chinese poems. His Chinese poems can be classified into three categories; internal ties through social intercourses, impressions about the events of the times, and the moods of Gyesanpoongryu(溪山風流) and Handam(leisurely conversation, 閑淡). Jeong-ho was specially close to Sooam(수암) Gwon Sang-ha(권상하) and Jikjae(직재) Yi Gi-heung(이기홍) and the friendship poems reveal their strong ties. Jeong-ho was exiled or appointed to the post in the provinces away from the capital, such as Goyang(고양), Gapsan(갑산), Cheokju(척주), Pyeongchang(평창), Sinji-do of Gangjin(신지도), and Yeongcheon-gun.(영천군) The farewell to his friends, the longing for them, and the lonely impressions in the places of exile at that time are expressed in his poems. He also showed strong displeasure with the events of the times. On the other hand, many of the Jangam poems describe quiet and peaceful moods and these are good sources to understand Jangam as a poet, not a politician. One of the marked characteristics of Jeong-ho’s poetry is that it is hard to find the traces of embellishment and elaboration, since almost every poem written by him is oriented towards communication(Sadal, 辭達). This poetic disposition seems to correspond to his straightforward character.
