The Social economy is perceived as a response or alternative to the crisis caused by neoliberal capitalism, and the present practice landscape is portrayed in such awareness, and it is diagnosed that “social” or “communal” is eventually captured by existing political and economic systems. This study is designed to discover other possibilities of discussion, away from the critical questions and realistic contradictions posed to the ‘social economy’. We would like to propose a work to discover the possibility of different interpretations by folklore reconstructing the concept of a social economy and the present meaning that the phenomenon dictates. A new point of perception could be established from the emphasis that the ‘social economy’ is not limited to systems and discourse, but is generating from very multilayered practices and historical strata. As an example, Wonju, Gangwon Province, which has both the historical and present nature of a private-led cooperative movement and actively seeks sustainable life through social and economic practice, pays attention to it. In the practice of the various social economies currently being carried out, a transformation of community cultural relations and folklore that cannot be established by explicit concepts can be found. By accessing the existence of these relationships at a folk level, we would like to point out the asymmetric complement of the explicit and intellectual dimension of the concept of social economy. This is an attempt to folklore understand the latent state (or provisional) of the social economy, which is in the midst of difficulty in recognizing the culture of domination, and which is not in practice itself.

사회적경제는 신자유주의적 자본주의로부터 야기되는 위기에 대한 대응 혹은 대안으로 인식되고 있고, 그러한 인식 속에서 현재의 실천지형이 그려지면서‘사회적인 것’혹은 ‘공동체적인 것’이 결국은 기존의 정치와 경제의 체제에 포획되고 있다는 진단이 가해지고 있다. 본 연구는 이처럼 ‘사회적경제’에 가해지고 있는 비판적 물음들과 현실적 모순들로부터 벗어난, 다른 논의의 가능성들을 발견하기 위한 기획이다. 사회적경제라는 개념과 현상이 지시하고 있는 현재적 의미를 민속학적으로 재구성하여 다른 해석의 가능성을 발견하는 작업을 제안하고자 한다. ‘사회적경제’가 제도와 담론에 국한된 대상이 아닌, 매우 다층적인 실천과 역사적 층위에서 생성하고 있다는 점에 대한 강조로부터 새로운 인식의 지점이 마련될 수 있을 것이다. 그 사례로, 민간 주도 협동운동의 역사성과 현재성을 두루 갖추고 있고, 사회적경제 실천을 통한 지속가능한 삶의 모색이 적극적으로 이루어지고 있는 강원도 원주를 주목한다. 현재 수행되고 있는 원주지역의 사회적경제의 실천에서는, 명시적인 개념으로 확립될 수 없는 공동체문화적 관계와 민속의 변환을 발견할 수 있다. 그러한 관계들의 존재성을 민속학적 차원에서 접속 해봄으로써, 사회적경제라는 개념의 명시적이고 지식적인 차원의 비대칭적 보완, 즉 변환 혹은 생성의 민속적 보충을 지적해보고자 한다. 이는 사회적경제의 생성적 의미를 민속적으로 규명해보는 하나의 시도로서, 지배문화가 제대로 인식하기 어려운 틈새에 배치되는 사회적경제 실천의 의미와, 실천 자체로 명명될 수 없는 잠재태(혹은 여전히 생성적이라는 의미에서 잠정적)에 대한 사유라고 할 수 있다.
