Purpose
Hepatitis B core antibody (HBcAb)-positive donors are an important source of organs in HBV endemic areas despite occult HBV infection risk. We analyzed the long-term outcomes of hepatitis B immunoglobulin (HBIG) in de novo HBV prevention following liver transplantation (LT) using anti-HBc-positive liver grafts.

Methods
Prospectively collected data from 2,201 recipients at the Seoul National University Hospital and Seoul National University Boramae Medical Center between 1988 and 2018 were retrospectively reviewed; 1,458 of those were enrolled. HBIG vaccination was used for prophylaxis, and de novo HBV infection was treated using nucleoside analogs (NAs).

Results
<Of the total number of grafts, 478 (32.8%) were core-positive, 152 (10.4%) of which belonged to HBsAg-negative recipients. De novo infection occurred in 21 of these recipients. De novo HBV infection occurred in 1, 11, 0, and 9 of th ... 전체 초록 보기
