Japanese survival swimming leaders(currently elementary, middle, and high schools’ survival swimming leaders) are in charge of the instruction of survival swimming in Japan. This study used the DACUM method in order to investigate the job description and analysis of Japanese survival swimming leaders. In the pursuit of this purpose, the core obligations and tasks needed for survival swimming leaders were identified through a preliminary investigation and two-times experts’ conferences. The, a questionnaire was made based on the pre-existing data and the details from the conferences. The following results were drawn from the questionnaire. First, 8 obligations and 32 tasks were found for survival swimming leaders. Second, priorities were decided based on the investigation of the perception of task level, perception of significance, and frequency of duties in the education process of Japanese survival swimming leaders. Through the comparison between the education system in Japan to that of South Korea for survival swimming leaders, the results of this study reveal that survival swimming leaders’ active participation rates and an increase of compulsory training time are required in order to make the best use of the current commissioned survival swimming lessons to increase the quality of training. In addition, this study implies that practical training programs for survival, including flexibility of class operation, swimming with clothes on, and sea swimming during vacations, are also needed.
