This study introduces a Tandem-style teaching model in which Japanese and Korean students study together to support Korean students who wish to get a job in Japan. The results of an analysis of a survey among students about this class, which is conducted as part of a job support program are as follows.
First, almost 90% of the respondents answered that the class was helpful for job interviews and Japanese conversation for job search in Japan.
Next, what proved to be another unique benefit of the Tandem-style class is that students can learn more natural, contemporary Japanese expressions and improve their pronunciation with the feedback from their native partner. The teaching models" additional benefits included more opportunities to practice interviews and conversations in Japanese, as well as developing closer friendship through more interactions and a better understanding of different cultures.
In sum, it is confirmed that students are able to acquire skills not only for a job interview, but also for Japanese conversation in general, including natural Japanese expressions, while obtaining an intercultural attitude necessary for employment in Japan.
This type of instruction can be said to be a very effective way to support employment. In addition, this case study is thought to be of practical help to professors in charge of job support programs in Japan. The study on an effective application of the tandem-style instructional model online should follow.
