The purpose of this research on middle school students was to find out how using physical education class time as Sogo Dance, which is a Korean folk dance, affects intrinsic motivation in physical education and achievement goal orientation. The subjects of this research were 6 classes of middle school 2nd grade students in P middle school, located in Gyeonggi-do, in the Participating Group, and 6 classes of middle school 2nd grade students in S middle school, located in Gyeonggi-do, in the Non-Participating Group. Among them, 132 students in the Participating Group and 121 students in the Non-Participating Group were used for analysis. The collected data were analyzed by frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reality analysis, independent t-test, and the Paired t-test in the SPSS WIN Ver 18.0. Results are as follows. First, these are the results after comparing the Participating Group and the Non-Participating Group. The pre-test didn’t show much difference between the two groups, but, in the post-test, the results showed significant differences. The results above show that Sogo Dance in physical education class affects positively on middle school students’ intrinsic motivation in physical education and achievement goal orientation. Dance class doesn’t only make students participate physical education class actively, but also it helps experiencing Korean Dance and have a positive perception about it.
