Traditionally, people thought of Genesis 1:28 as an order of fertility or an order of individual birth. However, this paper suggests that this statement should be viewed as a conditional and limited blessing. It means that this passage does not promote unconditional individual childbirth or fertility. This paper suggests that the population that planet Earth can support is limited and that the command of Genesis 1:28 should not be understood as an unlimited, unconditional individual birth and fertility command. Of course, the author believes that not being able to give birth to children should not be viewed as a curse or disobedience before God. It is also emphasized that the stewardship of God"s creation should include efforts to maintain a suitable or sustainable population (if necessary, to increase the population) that the earth can support. Even so, it seems that abortion and eugenic considerations for population control are clearly contrary to the spirit of the Bible.
