미국흰불나방(Hyphantria cunea)의 유충 혈림프로부터 열처리 (75$^{\circ}C$)와 2회의 anion exchange chromatography에 의해 철저장단백질인 ferritin이 정제되었다. Ferritin은 열처리된 혈림프에서 QAE-Toyopearl 550 C column에 의해 1차로 분리되었으며, 2차로 FPLC system을 이용한 TSK-gel DEAE-650M column에서 정제되었다. 정제된 ferritin은 silver stain에 의해 단일 밴드로 나타났다. Ferritin의 분자량은 약 730 kDa이며, 26, 31, 32 kDa인 3종의 소단위로 이루어져 있다.
