In many prior studies, the various semantic functions of the adverb “hai”. such as the continuation, repetition, scope expansion, degree, shallowness, anti-expectation, supplementary increment, meta-increment, Subjective evaluation, etc., few scholars point out the relevance of these semantics, and some even attribute the semantics of the entire sentence to the “hai” itself, or think that the adverb “continuation” is the etymology of many semantic functions. This paper uses the principle of cognitive linguistics and the principle of Base/Profile, based on the trajectory of spatial regression expressed by the verb “huan”, that is, the image schema of “Original Domain Regression”, thus deriving the core meaning of the adverb “hai” and its the motivation for semantic expansion. “huan” from the verb to the adverb, the adverb has evolved into a variety of meanings, and gradually evolved toward subjective development, the entire image of the semantic expansion process, the image schema from the target domain to the original domain remains unchanged, in other words The source is still stuck in the verb “huan”. The adverb “hai” also represents the trajectory of regression from the target domain to the original domain. Its core meaning is “return to the original state opposite to the trend of development”, and discusses that the adverb “hai” itself does not have multiple semantics, but this combination of core meanings and various contexts allows the entire sentence to produce a variety of semantic functions.
