This study centers on Kim Jong-sam's poem "The Gardener". This study focuses on artists he frequently quotes and presents in poetry. In this study, first, I discussed the artists looked at a world of direct style, secondly, discussed the nature of solidarity could build up. The main body of Kim Jong-sam's poem is located beyond the speaker who witnesses the center without seeking the center. Kim Jong-sam's main body preserves the central event without damaging it, because he does not carry out the central event himself. As previous studies have noted, the frequent appearance of artists in Kim Jong-sam's poems does not stop as an art lover. The main body of Kim Jong-sam lies beyond the speaker, who knows that the central event can never be transformed arbitrarily. After the speaker ignites an event that is beyond control, the subject is born, and this subject is proposed in this study as an artist. The artist's theme creates a complete experience of solitude, and is in a state of powerless. However, through the most personal experience of solitude, there is a possibility that it will lay the foundation for solidarity. This regiment, of course, has a different nature than the one imaginable in the existing chapter. This is because the alliance is strictly based on individual solitude and individuality.

본 연구는 김종삼 시의 특이점이 고독감과 무력감을 기본 정조로 하면서도, 시의 주체가 폐쇄적이거나 고립을 지향하는 세계에만 머물지 않고, 연대의 가능성을 암시하는 데 있다고 보았다. 김종삼 시의 미적 자질은 폐허가 된 현실을 묘사함에 있어, 생략과 암시라는 언어 실험을 통해 인간의 실존 조건을 재차 질문하는 시인의 태도에서 발생한다. 주목할 부분은, 김종삼 시에 나타난 가장 개인적인 감정인 ‘고독감’이 타자와 연대를 가능케 하는 전제로 기능한다는 점이다. 김종삼 시의 주체는 시에서 주요하게 다루어지는 장소나 사건의 중심 바깥에서 구성된다. 김종삼 시의 주체는 텍스트 상에서 사건의 주인공이 아니기 때문에 무력감에 빠지지만, 그것을 대가로 사건을 목격하고 보존시킬 수 있다. 특정 사건을 훼손하지 않으면서 그 사건을 작품화하는 작가, 음악가, 화가 등의 예술가들은 김종삼 시의 대상이나 화자로 자주 등장한다. 이 부분에 주목하여 김종삼 시 중 대표작으로 일컬어지는 ｢園丁｣을 다른 예술가 의식이 드러난 시들과의 연관선상에서 분석하고, ｢園丁｣에 등장하는 주체를 예술가로 논의하였다. 김종삼 시의 주체는 사건을 절대로 자의적으로 변모시킬 수 없다는 것을 알고 있으나 그것을 시로 남기지 않을 수 없음도 알고 있다. 이러한 주체를 본 연구에서는 예술가 주체 중의 하나로서 제안한다. 김종삼 시의 주체가 보여주는 연대는 공통점을 기반으로 두는 연대가 아니라, 개인의 고독과 개성이라는 차이점 사이의 소통 불가능한 한계를 기반으로 하는 연대로, 기존의 연대의 개념에 의문을 제기하며 연대라는 개념 자체의 정의를 다시 수립할 만한 가능성을 제시한다.
