This paper extracted 305 example sentences from the novel “To live” (“活著” in Chinese characters), where Chinese VRCs are used and looked at the translation patterns after putting the sentences through Naver Papago. Notably, by comparing these patterns with the translation patterns in the Korean translation of the book (Korean version titled “인생”) and by analyzing all the patterns in the two versions, the paper was able to shed some light on the subjective review’s limitations that had been pointed out in the existing discussions, and able to provide a more objective analysis criteria. Furthermore, it provides evidence of the extent to which machine translation has progressed over time by analyzing the translation patterns in the same example sentences a total of 3 times. It can be seen through various example sentences that machine translation has rapidly progressed over a period of around 2 years, and machine translation of Chinese VRCs has also made significant improvements. What is particularly notable among them is that translation of Types 1 and 2, which show compound events (the 2 Types where various academic research achievements and data are accumulated), shows a notably higher improvement rate than Types 3, 4, and 5, which are relatively lacking in research achievements (the 3 Types that show single events). Through this, the importance of academic achievements to the progress of machine translation and their contribution to its progress can be confirmed indirectly.
