In this study, Takyeong Kim Il-son’s (1464∼1498) discourse on Confucian civilization in Gimhae and its aesthetic achievement were examined by analyzing his historical story books related to Gimhae. The family clan of Kim Il-son is Gimhae. His family lived in Gimhae up to five generations ago and his family root and regional background remained in Gimhae until those times. His three historical story books including <Imgeumdanggi>, <Hamheojeonggi>, and <Hoerodanggi> converted Gimhae into the space of Confucian civilization through neo-Confucian interpretation. Kim Il-son discovered a new meaning of space by exploring external beauty as well as its implication and relational meaning. Running water and a building in <Imgeumdanggi> described the subjects containing harmony and appropriateness and a square-shaped nail and a building in <Hamheojeonggi> described the subjects containing the cultivation of mind and its social expansion. While the former described the space of neo-Confucian harmony, the latter presented the space for the cultivation of neo-Confucian mind. The form realized with a country village as a unit is the country community described in <Hoerodanggi >. His discourse on community is an effort to establish a new country order and reform the counties based on neo-Confucianism. It is notable that he respected the local uniqueness and individuality and searched for a standard from inside us, that is, our area (Gimhae) and our history (King Suro of Geumgwan Gaya), not from outside, while aiming for the establishment of universal Confucian civilization and neo-Confucianism country order. Kim Il-son played a leading role in a project to rediscover and convert Gimhae into a space of Confucian civilization. The most important achievement of his discourse on Confucian civilization in Gimhae was to combine unique culture and individuality while seeking Confucian universalism without a sense of inferiority as an important awakened local figure. In addition, the significance of his historical story books should be highly valued for its method to reveal its subject, literary capacity, and aesthetic achievement including composition, style, words, and figure of speech.
