This article started with a question about the background and meaning of Gyeongju Bible School in 1943. How was the Gyeongju Bible School established in 1943, when the Korean Protestant Church was unable to operate and operate normally? The purpose of this study was to analyze and consider the purpose, background, meaning, and characteristics of Gyeongju Bible School. In this period, the thesis of this paper has a limitation of data by nature, since 1943 is the year of the General Assembly and the Presbytery, and therefore there is no general or presbytery data. Nevertheless, this paper began with a poetic perspective reviving the historical meaning of the Gyeongju Bible School (now Laymen Training Center), which is still active.
The meaning of the establishment and operation of Gyeongju Bible School was explained in two ways. First, the establishment of Gyeongju Bible School in 1943 can be interpreted as a passive method of religious magnetism. As part of the indirect recovery of national sovereignty, national stiffness theory through education is interpreted as the will to overcome the national crisis with faith while preparing for the future of the nation through education of future generations.
The second characteristic of Gyeongju Bible Academy is its practical purpose and flexible operation. The purpose of the Gyeongju Bible School has changed little by little over time, and the school system has been reorganized several times. At the beginning of the establishment, several Bible classes were operated at a level tailored for low-educated students, and as the academic population increased in the 1980s, they were renamed as lay training centers, turning the direction for various lay positions, including weaving classes and anti-existence classes. It can be said that the Gyeongju Bible School"s operating method is a flexible and practical feature that responds sensitively to and responds to church requests.
