The purpose of this study is to understand the content and meaning and essence of development experience as a counselor experienced by barracks professional counselors. As the task of the barracks life counselors is to consult soldiers defending the country, studying the developmental experience of barracks life counselors not only helps the counselor’s growth, but also provides effective counseling to the soldiers. This study aims to help soldiers" well-being and adaptation in the army. This study analyzed data by phenomenological research among qualitative research methods to explore common meaning of participants. For this study, we interviewed 8 barracks professional counselors. The collected data were analyzed based on the 7-step procedure presented by Collaizzi(1978).
As a result of the research, finally, 144 theme, 29 subject cluster and 5 categories were derived. The five categories are ‘motive and processes to become a barracks counselor", "difficulties experienced as barrack counselors", ’positive experience as a barrack counselor", ‘capacity development as a barrack counselor’, ‘meaning of development experience as a barrack counselor.
Their developmental experience as a barracks life counselor meant to them that they were alive, to their ability to be able to do it, and it meant that they finally got to love them accepting themselves.
