The purpose of this paper is to examine the political and economic peculiarities of the Slovak of the transition process. The period was from the Velvet Revolution to the end of 1994 after separation from Czechoslovakia. The analysis is conducted in terms of the continuity of the socialist state period. The existing transition process research looked at the results of the shock therapy presented by the Washington Consensus. However, it can be said that the analysis with the purpose and direction presented is limited to explain the diversity of countries currently called post-socialism. With democratic and market economies as a premise, there may be limitations in discussing what is the problem, and it may be difficult to determine the exact cause of the present problem.
Therefore, in this paper, we study the political and economic fluctuations of Slovakia during the transition period of the system, not the premise of democratization and the introduction of free markets. As a tool for this, an institutional analysis method from a comparative historical perspective is used. In other words, it examines the relationship between the current situation and the past system’s closeness and policy heritage. Through this, we analyze the characteristics and differences that emerged during the transition process to find out the specificity of the transition to Slovakia.
