The aim of this study is to research DeLillo’s interest in science that originated from Great Jones Street, which was written in 1973. Bucky’s apartment building, similar to a living organism, accommodates the major characters symbolizing the three cerebral levels of survival brain, feeling brain and thinking brain divided in the process of evolution. Micklewhite, a deformed boy with a soft skull, occupies the lowest level of the building. He mirrors the survival brain that evolved the earliest. On the top level of the building resides the writer Fenig, who corresponds to the cerebral neocortex called the thinking brain. Bucky, on the second floor, represents the emotional battleground of the midbrain. DeLillo crosses the boundary between literature and science by imaginatively juxtaposing characters with singularities of brains. The two worlds are thus entangled and proceed to converge in the novel.
