The author, in assisting the school to carry out internationally-connected cross-domain learning, found that the students of our school needs improvement in terms of lingual expression, confidence, intercultural understanding, and logical thinking.
Therefore, it is recommended that Japanese universities should use Online Learning schemes as a pre-course before cross-domain learning, in order to help students with cross-domain learning through exchanges, discussions, or collaboration with native Japanese speakers in and out of the classroom. It can boost their overall capability as well as literacy of the required language, intercultural aspects of learning, and problem solving.
This pre-course is designed according to the COIL learning model and is divided into two stages. This research is the first stage of its empirical evidence. From the learner’s pre- and post-test analysis, the findings of this study are as follows:
1. The above four aspects of learning have shown progress.
2. In the four aspects, we have made the most progress with the “problem solving”.
3. Project-based learning and Active collaborative learning is meaningful.
