This study was conducted to develop an accessibility map of Jeonju Hanok Village based on the assessment of the accessibility situation from manual wheelchair users" perspectives as an example providing accessibility information of tourist attractions visually. In April 2019, a field study was conducted using checklists developed based on current legislative standards and previous studies. Major findings are as follows. (1) Accessibility of public disability parking and restrooms were acceptable. However, there were only four accessible public restrooms in the areas and only four stores with accessible restrooms. (2) Accessibility of pedestrian routes in Gyeonggijeon were good, while thresholds of gates in and outside the Gyeonggijeon were too high for manual wheelchair users to overcome. (3) In most stores, level differences at the entrance were greater than two centimeters without proper ramps to enter the stores. (4) More than 80% of enter-type and mixed-type stores were impossible for manual wheelchair users to access even with temporary assistance such as backing wheelchairs up at a steep ramp. (5) Overall, most pedestrian routes were accessible for manual wheelchair users without external assistance. Based on the accessibility assessment, color and greyscale accessibility maps were developed. Using the accessibility map, wheelchair users can plan sightseeing and shopping routes ahead the tour avoiding inaccessible passages or stores.
