East Asian ophthalmologists did not pay much attention to the structure of the eye or the principle of visual action, but focused on improving the efficiency of treatment. And based on the theory of ophthalmology represented by the Wulung(五輪) and Bakuo(八廓), they were faithful to the principle of treatment based on the five chapters. Separately, interest in optical anomalies has developed in some scholars. However, with the introduction of Western anatomy and optical knowledge, the understanding of ophthalmology gradually changed.
In the early days of Western medicine acceptance, the anatomy and optics of the eye developed separately, but the investigation of the principle of visual action continued. The interest seen in the Kaitai Shinsho 解體新書became more systematically understood in the Quanti Xinlun 全體新論. And in the nature of light that Hobson explained, it showed that information such as the color and location of the object as perceived by the human eye is not an entity of the object. This is a problem that causes a serious crack in the natural perception of the human body and the natural philosophy of tradition. Instead, Western natural sciences took its place.
