This paper proposes an integrated approach to combining extensive reading (ER) and project-based language learning (PBLL) into a unified program for Korean EFL learners. The advent of the fourth industrial revolution and the changing needs of the new generation of learners - the digital natives - call for a meta-skills approach in which language learning encompasses critical thinking, problem solving and collaborating abilities as well as the development of empathy and understanding of diversity and the world outside of the learners' local communities. In response to such needs, this paper presents a framework for integrating ER and PBLL in order to help Korean EFL learners to develop the meta-skills necessary in the 21st century.
