The identity of a local government may refer to the identity of the local-community where the people live, work, enjoy, etc. So it could be called the local identity and it must be influenced by an individuals role, socioeconomic status, self-worth, etc. in local-society.
We should approach a different characters of local identity from the national identity. In general, the national identity might arouse a cohesion or a point of sameness in people, who could feel that they are in one group and share something with a group of people. On the other hand, the local identity should contain many very different individuals. Because the local identity is not any more the abstract concept like the national identity. Whereas the other may refer to the people, the one to an individuals.
In this means, Gyeonggi-Do should have the feature for Gyeonggi-Do Identity. In 2016, 50.8% of those surveyed said the first image of Gyeonggi-Do is peripheral, as it were in the vicinity of Seoul. In fact, many people have said that Gyeonggi-Do Identity is this kind of the peripherality. In the survey 2019, they said still peripherality as the first image of Gyeonggi-Do. But they don’t consider it as the particular image, that is to say Gyeonggi-Do Identity.
From now, Gyeonggi-Do could and should build up a new image, a new local image, not as peripherality. It might consist of these terms : confidance(10.2% of those surveyed in 2019), future(10.1%), fairness(9.0%), practicality(8.9%), etc. These could be based on the new culture or new identity of Gyeonggi-Do. It must be an Individuals, not a group of people, who love, consider and admire oneself and also the others. In other words, they would have a Self-Respect.
